Graduate Certificate in Gender-Based Violence

Program Details

The Graduate Certificate in Gender-Based Violence (GBV) provides an interdisciplinary perspective on crime, the formulation of laws and codes, and the criminal legal system and its intersection with gender and violence. Prospective students who wish to pursue this certificate must apply as non-degree applicants.

Program requirements

• The Graduate Gender-Based Violence Certificate requires 12 credit hours of coursework.
• Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, with a minimum grade of B- in each course.

Required courses

Students must complete the two required courses below, for a total of 6 credit hours.

• CRJU 5150/PUAD 5155: Interpersonal Violence (3 credit hours)
• CRJU 5930/PUAD 5930: Interpersonal Violence Law & Policy (3 credit hours)

Elective courses

Students must also choose two classes from the list of electives below, for a total of 6 credit hours.

• CRJU 5920/PUAD 5920: The Psychology of Interpersonal Violence (3 credit hours)
• CRJU 5940/PUAD 5940: Interpersonal Violence Leadership, Advocacy & Social Change (3 credit hours)
• CRJU 5391: Sex Offenders & Offenses (3 credit hours)
• CRJU 5410: Victimology
• CRJU 5420: Violence in Society (3 credit hours)
• CRJU 5553: Gender & Crime (3 credit hours)
• PUAD 5271: Managing Conflict & Change (3 credit hours)
• PUAD 5320: Public Policy Analysis (3 credit hours)
• PUAD 5420: Law & Public Policy (3 credit hours)
• PUAD 5440: Negotiation & Conflict Resolution (3 credit hours)

With certificate director approval, a student may substitute one of the following courses in the elective course list:
