Denver Supportive Housing Models for Healthy Youth Project

The University of Colorado Denver School of Public Affairs (SPA) is partnering with the City and County of Denver Department of Public Health and Environment to implement the Denver Supportive Housing Models for Healthy Youth project. Funded by a grant from the United States Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the project focuses on proposing several models of supportive, neighborhood-based youth and family housing with co-located resources and essential services across Denver.

Project Methodology

Community-based Approach

The project utilizes a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach with a particular focus on youth aged 14-24. CU Denver researchers will work alongside young people and community members to develop survey instruments, analyze data, make recommendations for proposed housing models, and incorporate feedback on funding structures.

The project team includes a youth research team and an advisory council in addition to the CU Denver research team made up of faculty, staff, and PhD students.

Surveys

The project team is conducting two surveys: one for service providers across metro Denver and one for local youth. Data from these surveys will help researchers understand:

  • Availability and accessibility of current services
  • Community strengths and assets
  • Housing availability and needs
  • Service gaps
  • Provider networks
  • Other topics identified by youth research team and advisory council
