The School of Public Affairs is proud to celebrate the creative achievement of PhD candidate Hope Yohn, whose short film Bright Future has been selected as an Official Selection at the prestigious Austin Film Festival. Known as an Academy-qualifying event and the premier screenwriters conference in the U.S., the Austin Film Festival champions bold storytelling and emerging voices in film.
Yohn co-wrote Bright Future and contributed to its production design, hair, and makeup. The film explores the complex and timely issue of secondary trauma from sexual assault, highlighting its ripple effects and challenging men to take responsibility and support healing. Through its powerful narrative, Bright Future asks difficult questions about accountability, recovery, and the lasting impact of sexual violence.
In addition to her creative work, Yohn serves as a professional research assistant under Annie Miller, PhD, School of Public Affairs Associate Dean. Her interdisciplinary contributions reflect the depth and diversity of talent within SPA.
Following its festival run, Bright Future will be released online.
