The University of Colorado Denver's School of Public Affairs (SPA) has launched a national search for its next dean, seeking a visionary and collaborative leader to guide the school's continued growth and national impact.

The search comes as SPA continues to build on its national reputation as Colorado's leading public affairs school and one of the top programs in the country. Ranked No. 20 among 266 public affairs graduate programs nationwide, SPA prepares future leaders through undergraduate and graduate programs in criminal justice and public affairs, as well as professional leadership development offerings.

David Rifkind, dean of the College of Architecture and Planning, will chair the search committee. CU Denver has retained executive search firm Isaacson, Miller to assist with the recruitment.

Applications and nominations will be accepted through Oct. 5, 2026. The university expects to identify a finalist by the end of 2026, with the new dean beginning in the first half of 2027. Christopher Weible will continue serving as interim dean until a permanent dean is appointed.

The next dean will play a key role in advancing SPA's mission of producing knowledge and cultivating leadership that transforms complex policy challenges into opportunities for positive change.
