School of Public Affairs Invites Community to “Make it Real” for Students This Giving Day
Laura McHugh | University Communications Apr 2, 2026
Today marks CU Denver Giving Day, a 24-hour celebration of generosity and collective impact that brings together alumni, students, faculty, staff, and community supporters. The CU Denver School of Public Affairs (SPA) is proud to participate, inviting donors to help students “Make it Real” by supporting the School of Public Affairs Scholarship Fund and other student-focused resources.
This year's Giving Day theme reflects a simple but powerful idea: when we remove barriers to education, we help students turn their aspirations into achievement. At SPA, where students prepare for careers in public administration, public policy, criminal justice, and nonprofit leadership, the stakes are especially high. These are the future public servants who will help solve the complex challenges facing our communities, our state, and our world.
Help Shape the Next Generation of Public Leaders
More than ever, public agencies, nonprofits, justice organizations, and governments at all levels need thoughtful, informed, service-driven professionals. SPA is committed to equipping students with the analytical skills, hands-on experience, and evidence-based training necessary to lead with integrity and impact.
By giving to the School of Public Affairs Scholarship Fund today, donors help ensure that:
- Passionate students can access a high‑quality, affordable education
- First‑generation and underrepresented students have the support they need to persist and graduate
- Students can focus on building careers in public service rather than navigating financial barriers
- Colorado communities benefit from well‑prepared leaders who are ready to serve
Your gift helps reduce financial strain, expands opportunities, and opens doors for students who want to make a difference in their communities and beyond.
Why Your Giving Day Support Matters
CU Denver is a national leader in advancing social mobility and creating opportunity:
- Half of CU Denver undergraduates are students of color
- Half are first‑generation college students
- CU Denver is ranked #1 in Colorado for social mobility (according to U.S. News & World Report)
- 84% of graduates are employed within one year, and most stay in Colorado to serve their communities
For School of Public Affairs students, many of whom work, intern, care for families, or serve in the military while pursuing their degrees, the impact of scholarships and student support is immediate and profound.
A Growing Tradition of Collective Impact
In the past four years, CU Denver Giving Day has raised more than $365,000 from over 980 donors, creating new opportunities for students across campus. Last year alone, more than 380 donors contributed over $120,000, empowering students through scholarships, emergency funds, and key academic programs.
Today, the SPA community has the opportunity to build on that momentum and create an even greater impact.
