Events

CU Denver School of Public Affairs strives to be an educational resource by offering a number of timely and relevant events each year. Community members, students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are invited to learn more about current topics and participate in ongoing discussions involving the fields of public administration, local governance, environmental sustainability, education and criminal justice. Consider joining us as we host subject experts and take a deeper look into the issues and opportunities facing local, state and national leaders. If you have questions about any of our events, please contact us at spa.events@ucdenver.edu.

Update about our events due to the coronavirus

In response to an official announcement from CU Denver regarding changes to the campus events policy, the School of Public Affairs will be holding all of our events virtually, unless otherwise indicated, until we are permitted to resume our in-person programming. This affects events such as our First Friday Breakfast and Criminal Justice Series, as well as our co-hosted events. Those not already on our events mailing list can subscribe to receive updates and invitations to our events.

The SPA PhD Student Association (SPAPSA), along with sponsorship from SPA, the Student Government Association (SGA), and the Graduate School, is hosting its 6th annual Prominent Public Affairs Scholar event. The Prominent Scholar Series exposes students to cutting-edge public affairs theory and research and facilitates networking to link students to ‘up and coming’ scholars in the most prestigious contemporary policy and public administration departments.

This year’s Prominent Public Affairs Scholar Series award winner is Dr. Amanda Rutherford, Assistant Professor at Indiana University Bloomington’s O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Her research interests include the following areas: managerial values and decision making, performance management, organization theory, representative bureaucracy, higher education policy, and research methodology. Dr. Rutherford has also published prolifically in high-impact academic journals. The two-day April event includes a welcome dinner with students on the first day (Thursday, 4/25) and student paper workshops, Dr. Rutherford’s research presentation, one-on-one meetings with Dr. Rutherford, and an award dinner on the second day (Friday, 4/26).
