Managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, the standing architecture at Moose Tower is threatened by both natural and anthropogenic impacts.

In the summer of 2012 The Center of Preservation Research, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management and the national Park Service completed 3D digital documentation of the structure. Utilizing a Leica Scan Station 2 to collect LiDAR laser scan data the team of Mike Nulty and Julia Ausloos were able to complete a 3D model of the structure. This data collected will be archived for the creation of HABS drawings.

The Center of Preservation team was also joined on site by photogrammetry specialists from the BLM. Data from both teams was collected in such a way that both data sets could be compared and analyzed for the purpose of comparing the two technologies of LiDAR and Photogrammetry.
