power. In 2021\, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace\, cited for his
&ldquo\;efforts to safeguard freedom of expression.&rdquo\;\n\nMuratov co

her journalists. He was the newspaper's editor-in-chief from 1995 to 2017\
, and again assumed the position in 2019. The newspaper is known for its r

ries\n\nThe Herrick Roth Lecture Series at the School of Public Affairs wa
s established to honor the late activist\, labor leader\, and founder of t
he Colorado Forum\, Herrick Roth. Mr. Roth was deeply committed to underst
anding what he called &ldquo\;horizon issues\,&rdquo\; which he defined as
long-term public concerns that needed thoughtful reflection\, discussion\
, and understanding in order to facilitate Colorado&rsquo\;s meaningful an
d healthy growth. Thus\, the Herrick Roth Community Seminar Series on Demo
cracy aims to support and promote discussions around issues of civic engag
ement\, political polarization\, and other complicated public policy issue
s amongst communities within and beyond the University of Colorado Denver.
\n\nAbout the Center for Policy and Democracy\n\nThe Center for Policy and
Democracy is a hub for research\, teaching\, and community engagement on
public policy and democracy. Working across disciplines\, states\, and cou
ntries\, we bring various perspectives to study and inform how policies an
d politics impact the most important issues facing democratic societies to
day.\n \;
